The Accelerating Clinical Trials (ACT EU) initiative aims to identify gaps, issues and bottlenecks (regulatory, resourcing, operational) that prevent non-commercial sponsors from setting up and conducting clinical trials and multinational trials in particular.
The ACT EU initiative has launched several measures to strengthen support for non-commercial sponsors, such as academic institutions and non-profit organisations among others, in setting up and conducting clinical trials, particularly across multiple Member States. A dedicated helpdesk now provides tailored assistance on the Clinical Trials Regulation (CTR) and Clinical Trials Information System (CTIS), while a map of national support initiatives gives an overview of available resources across the EU. From 1 January 2025, entities not engaged in economic activities also benefit from a fee waiver for scientific advice. In addition, ACT EU has published an exploratory analysis on EU-level funding opportunities to further facilitate multinational academic trials. More information is available on the ACT EU website.
